Jon Ruben confessed to 17 criminal counts at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week

A person who laced treats with sedative and distributed them to minors at a summer camp in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two young males aged nine and 10.

The defendant was taken into custody after eight youngsters and one adult experienced illness at the location in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the courthouse on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was facing, which was against a young boy.

The accused was kept in jail before a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.

She explained his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.

Ruben conducted a "treat game" with the children, the legal counsel stated, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge the defendant had engaged in this activity with the boys "over an extended period", and children had previously fallen ill the following morning.

She stated the defendant had been able to explain this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had suspicions in July 2025.

The legal representative added: "This year his stepson had concerns about the activities, with valid cause.

"They decided to investigate in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC stated objects including lubricant, ointment and syringes were located, and his family member contacted the police about his suspicions.

She explained Ruben went on to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that point," she added.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the incident.

The legal representative said the children were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the family member called the authorities once more.

She explained the man then engaged in the "treat game" in a area of five minors.
